Stunning news from New Orleans Saints camp as safety Jairus Byrd sustained a torn lateral meniscus in his knee during Thursday's practice and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, coach Sean Payton announced after Friday's practice. The Saints have played only one home game so far this year. And already people are starting to feel like the thing has come unraveled.
Byrd was one of the biggest free-agent acquisitions throughout the league in the offseason as he signed a six-year contract with the Saints for an average of $9 million per season. The Saints let Malcolm Jenkins leave via free agency to sign Byrd, a three-time Pro Bowler.
