Eventually, they passed it. The US House just voted to (theoretically, if this ever becomes law) yank health care benefits away from something like 20-30 million Americans. People are going to either die outright or be cast into greater and greater depths of misery as a result of this. The Republicans are celebrating with Bud Light and very bad football metaphors.
Democrats, meanwhile, are also celebrating. They think they've been handed a gift for the 2018 midterms. They also thought this about the 2016 Presidential election. Unless they come up with a coherent, appealing health care policy to sell to voters, they won't be able take much advantage of this. In fact, if it doesn't pass the Senate, we can throw this House vote on the pile of fifty something other times Republicans symbolically voted to repeal Obamacare over the past several years. They havent' yet paid much of a price for any of that.
Speaking of the Senate, now we can begin the long national exercise of confidently declaring the repeal will never get out of there. Until it does. And the, I guess, everybody will celebrate again.
