Caramel Macchiato

Should be a new threat level unto itself.

So the U.S. Government believes it may have “legal authority” to compel Twitter to close accounts. From where does that authority derive? Presumably, the Obama administration could consider Twitter’s providing of a forum to a designated Terrorist organization to constitute the crime of “material support of Terrorism.” That raises a variety of questions: is the NYT guilty of that crime by quoting some of those tweets and promoting the account (since the first NYT article was published, the number of people following @HSMPress has significantly increased and is almost certain to increase more as a result of today’s article). Can one be guilty of that crime if one re-tweets any of their messages? How about if one defends their right to have a Twitter account?

Tipping point

It's been coming for a while but this Wikileaks saga is hurrying the heavily censored and closed internet out into the world beyond just China. In a few years it will basically just be another conduit for TV shows.

Adding: Yes, Twitter restored the account. The point, though, is look how easy it is to squish people if you want to.

Saints teaser post

As many of the regular readers are aware, when I go to the Saints games I bring with me 1) a cell phone for posting comments to the Tweeter Tube and 2) a flask full of liquor for mixing with my eight dollar soda. The combination makes for increasingly fun stupidity as the game wears on... not to mention some cringe-worthy moments upon review of the game-time Tweeter Tubings come the following morning. For example, it appears that the last thing tweeted last evening somewhere around midnight reads:

Thank God the Saints won because FUCK ED BLAKELY

Worse still, I seem to have been so proud of that one that I decided to copy and paste it to Facebook where it reads:

hank God the Saints won because FUCK ED BLAKELY

And so let us all give hanks to God this morning. The Saints are 7-0.

More to come... hopefully before week's end.

I've been informed that Twitter is back up

Guess this means that James Perry won't be dropping out of the Mayor's race after all.

Caveat, Douchebag

Our friend Poochie has a Tweeter Tube too.
you think your (sic) buying LA film tac creits. but the fuckn snapper didnt... wow this is a fucked up world we live in
If you really are that impressed with your inherent superiority to the "fuckn snapper" maybe you could demonstrate that by taking the initiative to do some research on the "LA film tac creits" before blindly throwing your money into Uncle Rico's helmet.

Little understood Tweeter Tube facts

About two thirds of the "content" is advertising. We live in a truly bizarre time where people voluntarily sign up to follow a series of pizza commercials, bar specials and... oddly calculated gossip about the exciting yet undefined activities of ad-hoc business associations. It's the world's worst opt-in spam machine. But everybody loves it.

Suggestion

To any and all individuals, "activist attorneys", or news organizations in possession of additional Stacy Head emails. If you could agree to make all future releases of these documents happen via Twitter, I would be forever grateful.

Forbidden Links Update

Moments ago in the Tweeter Tube:

Gambit Weekly is working on our user policy, regarding linking to our site. We encourage local bloggers to link and value the feedback.

I guess the good news is, they're listening. The bad news, then, is... they're listening.

Update:
For the record, I think everyone would like to see the Gambit and its associated Blog of New Orleans engage more with the local blogosphere... I just personally don't want to see my blog linked there. Too many people read the Yellow Blog as it is. I think I need to develop my own links policy.

Mr. Answer Man Moment

This afternoon, whoever is operating the Gambit's interface with the very exciting Tweeter Tubes posed this question to the Tweety Tweeters who tweet about the tube.

would love the savvy twitter community advice on how to improve Gambit's new blog: blogofneworleans.com

I think that's a question despite the Tweeterishly ambiguous grammar. The answer is more posts like this one.

Update: Oyster has another helpful suggestion

Of no interest whatsoever

I got talked into getting one of those tweety tweeter type deals where the internets demand constant status reports of you... sometimes via text message or even semaphore if necessary. I figured I'd sign up for this now in the hope that when they start coming around implanting RFID chips in everyone's left asscheek, I might be a bit further down on the priority list.

I've got an updates badge sitting over in the sidebar for now just so everyone can see how stupid it is. Might take it down at some point.

Note of some import:
There do happen to be some folks up in the Tweeter Tube who are worth following so if I've pointed you in the right direction in spite of myself, you may thank me at your leisure.
