I had a major bone to pick with the Dayen article you linked:

"But Sanders couldn’t get past his mindset: that if you fix economic
inequality in America, social justice will naturally follow. Historical
experience doesn’t show this; Bland was an educated black woman went to
Texas for a job interview and three days later, was found dead in her
jail cell. Countries in Europe with high degrees of state spending to
reduce inequality continue to have racially motivated problems with
immigrant communities. The critique doesn’t hold."

Tell that to color of Change and all the other progressive groups that send me emails asking me to support the latest effort to make the 1% .(or at least the comfortable end of the lopsided barbell*) look like the rest of the country. Those emails usually include references to recent injustices, either implying or outright stating that economic equality is a necessary for racial justice.

*Because even though Progressives continually describe an economy that's turned into a zero sum game for most of us, the best they can usually come with is plans to make the comfortable end of the lopsided barbell look like the uncomfortable end.bayoustjohndavidnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976758.post-11476757066971871102015-07-21T19:55:41.918-05:002015-07-21T19:55:41.918-05:00Sorry if it's confusing. As governor he opposed the Louisiana Lottery and fought corruption. He also fought the Louisiana
Lottery. Prior to and during teh Civil War he did speak eloquently on behalf of the south and slavery.

John Caldwell Calhoun had been dead for over a decade before the Civil War. He had been a major national political figure during his
life. He served as Vice President of the United States under J. That resume should be enough to get a few
things named after him.

General Albert Pike was a general in the Confederate Army for
less than 6 months with a less than spectacular record, in fact he was charged with theft, insubordination and treason, but lacking solid proof was allowed to resign. A planned encounter designed to trigger a legal argument. The planners were called the Comité des Citoyens, a citizens group "made up of “civil libertarians, ex-Union soldiers, Republicans, writers, a former Louisiana lieutenant governor, a French Quarter jeweler and other professionals.” That sounds a bit like the NOLA blogging community. I think you are better placed to make some progress renaming Lee Circle as Plessy Circle than you think. Maybe have a panel at Rising Tide with some invited historians and urban planners. I think in pretty short order you could have a website, a design competition with a crowd funded prize, some events related to Homer Plessy at Lee Circle, all with the same effort required to post bad holiday videos or ruminations on potholes. I'd pledge $50 to the effort. Hell, I'd pay $50 for a compilation of Yellow Blog food posts rebranded as Plessipes.
