It was barely even a month ago, during the height of the Carnival season, when we witnessed this brief moment of glory.



Could it be this fleeting act of defiance that spurred J.P. Morrell into action this week? 

“I waded into this because, as the chairman says, it’s a liberty issue,” Morrell said. Booting keeps the owners, who often weren’t involved or even knew about the parking ticket, from the use of the vehicle.

The city changed its procedures, apparently, to make more money, he added.

Morrell’s Senate Bill 440 would require New Orleans city government to notify the owner of the vehicle by certified mail 15 days before booting.

David Vitter is an absolute menace on the roads

Primary Day 2015 (Correction. Primary Day Eve. Sorry) : Hurried away from the scene of an accident involving his driver/campaign staffer/SuperPAC coordinator.

Later, unspecified date in 2015: Another staffer backs into something in a parking lot.

Something about David Vitter on the road makes people nervous.

How can you tell when David Vitter is nervous?

Just look to see if he's crashing his car into stuff.

U.S. Sen. David Vitter was a passenger in a car involved in a traffic crash in Metairie on Friday afternoon, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. The crash occurred about 12:05 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Carrollton Avenue, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.

Vitter, who is a candidate in Saturday's gubernatorial election, was riding in a 2006 Mercedes Benz driven by a New Orleans woman who was not identified by JPSO. She hit a 2011 Honda Civic driven by a woman who is also from New Orleans, Fortunato said. 

Okay so Vitter wasn't driving this time.  But, you may recall the last time he was dealing with bad press over his.. um.. proclivities... this happened.

SELA season

Cleverly timed. They say they've timed this for "while school is out for summer" but what they really mean is there aren't as many tourists around who will want to ride on the streetcar amusement.

You thought traffic in Uptown New Orleans couldn't get any worse. Wait until June 1.

That's when the Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Sewerage & Water Board and the Regional Transit Authority, will rip up streetcar tracks at three major intersections along St. Charles Avenue to continue installing major federal drainage canals.

Those crossings, at Jefferson, Napoleon and Louisiana avenues, will be compromised for 90 days, allowing crews to do the work simultaneously to minimize snarling traffic while school is out for the summer.

This just after they finished putting in the new rail ties last year.



If you're Uptown, it might be a good time to make sure your bike is in good shape. Although people keep trying to make that more complicated than it needs to be as well.

I'm not sure why we aren't all out celebrating this woman.  Nobody was hurt. The stunt was pretty cool. And, best of all, the Convention Center got smashed up a bit.  Can we kickstarter her legal defense, at least?

Maybe just stop allowing big trucks in the Quarter

Large trucks like these tend to come screaming around the corner at our place and that seems bad enough as it is. I pick on the cat for getting freaked out by it but maybe he's right.

NEW ORLEANS -- An 18-wheeler hit a French Quarter home as it tried to make a narrow turn Sunday morning.

The accident happened in the 1300 block of Chartres Street at about 6 a.m.

According to the resident at the home, it's not the first time he's had issues with large vehicles negotiating the turn. He said there's no signs in the area indicating a maximum length of vehicles looking to make a turn.
