Actually it adds zing to the barbecue sauce

They say he had no use for it but I don't think they know.
Horn, a Saints standout and fan favorite who retired from the NFL after the 2007 season, admitting paying off co-defendants Vanover and Caldwell and others who helped him submit the false claims, according to court records.

Among those claims was reimbursement for a $52,000 cryosauna, a machine that uses nitrogen vapor to create freezing temperatures for body therapies. But Horn didn’t need the machine and never received it, prosecutors said.
It's the quick-freeze that really locks the flavor in.

If you live long enough, all of your heroes become Uncle Rico, I guess.

Anyway it's a shame this happened.  NFL retirees have had to fight pretty hard to get the league to do anything at all to help with the health care costs incurred after a career in pro football destroys their bodies. Ripping that fund off, in particular, is, as they say, not a very good look.

Of course, under a nationalized single payer health care system, none of this would even matter. But that's another conversation

Post-vacation hangover

Ole Smoky Distillery

Been driving back and forth across the country (which is too big for my liking, frankly) the past few days checking in on every tourist trap, karaoke bar, and Krystal burger between here and Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Slogan: We're The Other Branson.) It's always nice to take a trip like this to remind oneself of just how many hyper-evangelical paranoid Trump voters there really are out there.  I was already pessimistic about tomorrow's elections before we went on this trip. I'm more pessimistic now.

Anyway, I'm recovering from a very long drive yesterday so more on that later.  In the meantime, it's nice to know somebody finally answered Joe Horn's call after 15 years.  Verizon service really can be shitty inside the Dome sometimes.

Quote of the day

Joe Horn
“All I’m saying is this right here, man: The man got too much damn power,” Horn said of Goodell, via USA Today. “For him to come down and do that? And, you know, it’s the players’ fault, because they should ask for his damn job. He’s just not a fair commissioner.”

Horn referenced comments from Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who called Goodell a “crook” and a “devil” and a “puppet” and a “dictator” in an interview last year.

“He’s exactly what James Harrison said he was to me,” Horn said. “Everything James Harrison said he was, to me, today confirmed that with the commissioner as far as I’m concerned. And I know I’m retired and it really don’t matter to him but the players, the ones that are active, should ask for his damn job.”

The Joe Horn Cooking Show

Today Joe Horn appeared on WWLTV's morning show to hawk his new signature line of barbecue sauces. Of course, no sane people are actually up early enough to watch this happen in real time but luckily the internet is magic and we can reproduce the video for you below.

What we can't reproduce, unfortunately, is the smell although we have fairly reliable eyewitness (nosewitness?) testimony that it was awesome. Testimony below.

Note: While the local culinary writers and professionals scheduled to appear on Rising Tide's New Orleans food and dining panel this year are certainly no Joe Horns, we expect you might find the discussion worth your while nonetheless.
