The #FreeJackie bill

The legislature is considering a law that would require elevators to be inspected in Louisiana.  You may have thought such a bill already existed.  It did not.
Louisiana doesn’t require regular safety inspections of elevators, and while some municipalities have set their own regulations, most parishes are without rules for annual checkups to make sure elevators and escalators are operating properly.
This became a local issue last year when Jackie Clarkson was late to a council meeting because she was stuck in the elevator at City Hall for 40 minutes

Currently the mayor is still quietly pushing a plan to move City Hall over to the vacant Charity Hospital Building.  No word on how an elevator inspection decree might increase the cost of such a project.
