We already know you're all coming back later on anyway. Why put it off?
Leaders of the Republican-controlled state Legislature are planning to call lawmakers into a special session immediately after the regular session ends in 10 days, according to a petition that is circulating Friday. This probably won't even be the last session this year given the constantly shifting fiscal situation. This first special session is likely more about overriding vetoes than anything else. That and the Republicans wanted to call one where they set the terms. Anyway the budget John Bel gave them should be fine for now. Just pass that and come back later to fight.
The document, which was signed by the four legislative leaders, calls for lawmakers to consider 41 separate items beginning at 6:01 p.m. on June 1, or 1 minute after the regular session ends.
