Fake Game #2

As I've said previously, pre-season games just aren't worth dwelling on but the following was noted last night:

  • Overall play was better. No big plays on defense, the first offense moved the ball well. It doesn't matter much in reality but it will keep the talk show circuit from panicking this week.

  • Rookie QB Tyler Palko is very very skinny. He runs around pretty well, but he has an awkward looking throwing motion.. almost like he's semi-shot putting the ball. He also threw two interceptions. I wonder... is there such a thing as a left-handed football and should they consider buying him one?

  • Rookie WR Robert Meachem came into camp a little fat. He also has tended toward fragility tweaking his knee and ankle a few times in practice. But he made an over-the-shoulder catch in the endzone last night.. which was nice.. although it should never have been ruled in bounds.

  • There were no serious injuries. That's a good thing.

  • The stupid black leotard pants are back. That's a bad thing.

  • The best bloody marys in the city are back. That's a good thing.

  • Those bloody marys are now 12 bucks for a double. That's a really really bad thing.

  • Also.. beer is now $7 in the Superdome. Last season, r grumpily skipped three home games in protest of the confiscatory concession prices. She was predictably horrified at the latest increases. We may not see her at all this season.

  • Last night, the concession stand nearest our seats faced a crisis as the manager had apparently left the staff with no key to the supply room. As a result, there was no soda or beer available for much of the first half. But it's only pre-season.
