Does the House really even need a Speaker?
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told the National Review that the House Republican conference may "have to hit rock bottom" before the chamber fully functions again.
National Review's Rich Lowry asked McCarthy if the House was governable.
"I don’t know. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom," McCarthy responded.
What is rock bottom, though? Is it when they decide they have to shut down the government because of someone's home movie project? Or is it when they elect a self-described "
David Duke without the baggage," to the number 3 leadership position?
Maybe they need to go through a session run by no one to hit rock bottom. Maybe they're waiting for the contractors to install that hot new Gavelr app that replaces the speaker with a proprietary algorithm that sets the House agenda for everybody.
Whatever it is, they haven't hit it yet.
