Lunchtime links

I suppose I need to get the obligatory Saints thing written but I'm not particularly in the mood today. (UPDATE: Of course, when all else fails, go read Wang on the subject Also a good idea when things are not failing) In the meantime, here's some stuff to pass around.

If you're looking for a pretty good piece of political analysis to read today, this article by former GOP congressional staffer Mike Lofgren is worth your time if you haven't read it already. I saw it a few days ago and was turned off by the stupid headline. I'm glad I decided to give it a look anyway.

Looks like the Sonniers might finally be making some progress on their long-delayed attempt to revive Gabrielle.

Candidates are qualifying this week for this fall's statewide elections. Clancy Dubos previews the big races in this week's Gambit. They are all Republican-a-riffic. Clancy's article also includes this eye-catching sentence.
Hurricane Katrina literally swept away at least 100,000 Democratic voters, but Louisiana already was trending Republican.
For the record, Hurricane Katrina did not literally sweep 100,000 Democratic voters away but we think we know what Clancy means.

Tar balls still washing up on Gulf Coast beaches

Break out the Aggie jokes Or maybe let's write some new ones. I suggest starting with the punch line "Les Miles" and then working backwards from there.

And that ought to hold our attention until dinner time.
