Hurricane drought

Here is a strange fact.
In a stroke of luck, no major hurricanes rated Category 3 or higher have struck U.S. soil during the past nine years, a new study finds.

This is the country's longest "hurricane drought" in recorded history, or since 1851, the researchers said. The previous record lull lasted eight years, from 1861 to 1868, they said.
Weird to think about since this has been the decade when the fact and threat of hurricanes has loomed the largest over every day life for most of us.  This is especially true in New Orleans but elsewhere as well. And yet, it's also been the driest decade, technically speaking.

Anyway, the season is coming.

  1. Amongst the climate science I've kept up with, the consensus appeared to be that it's believed that hurricanes will become more infrequent with Climate Change, but more powerful when they do occur.
