Maybe not the sexiest fight card today but here it is.
Mayors of Gretna and Westwego, judges and councilpersons in suburban areas, and one Juvenile Court judge race in Orleans.
This week, in laying out his agenda for the upcoming legislative session, Mayor Landrieu recommended eliminating two Juvenile Court seats so who knows if the winner of today's race will remain seated for very long? But for what it's worth, here again are the candidates as photographed in last month's Irish Channel Parade.
The man in the green tie is Doug Hammel. According to a graphic on his campaign website, Hammel is endorsed by no less than 17 little POGs, 7 logos, and one organization that is apparently too lazy to create a logo. Also according to my drive this morning, he has staked out an overwhelming majority of the St. Charles Avenue neutral ground with his signage.
The lady in the big brimmed frilly green hat is Hammel's opponent, Cynthia D. Samuel. Ms. Samuel's professional website, "http://www.noladivorcelawyer.com/" tells us she is known in legal circles as "The Barracuda." And according to this profile which appeared on NOLA.com, "She also paints faces in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras and other events."
I received a mailer from Ms. Samuel's campaign this week informing me emphatically that Doug Hammel is a "LIAR" no doubt meaning that he likely has a comfortable edge going into election day. Anyway, happy voting.

My inclination would be to vote for Hammel, since I appreciate the way he coordinates his tie to his sign. But I probably just won't vote.
lmao at "The Barracuda."
