Okay I can stop being nice to them now

God. The fuck. Dammit.

Hell of a way to follow up on the feel-good storybook season of 2006. First, piss off one of your few decent defensive players by sticking the franchise tag on Charles Grant and then drop the most accomplished player and leader on the team. Way to fucking go!!

The Saints released Joe Horn on Thursday, after they could not agree on a reduced or restructured contract.

One of the most popular and productive players in team history, Horn leaves as the Saints’ all-time leader with 50 touchdowns in six seasons. He also ranks second in franchise history with 523 receptions and 7,622 receiving yards.

Horn, who turned 35 in January, was scheduled to earn a $4.45 million salary this year, plus a $1 million roster bonus later this month. According to the Saints, Horn asked to be released before the start of free agency on Friday so he could explore his market value.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said the Saints are still leaving the door open for Horn to return after he shops his services around the league.

“He’s been one of the best free agents the club has ever signed, and I’ve been here to watch him develop into one of the NFL’s best wide receivers since he joined the Saints,” Loomis said in a statement. “It’s been a great relationship for both our club and for Joe, and one we still hope may continue until Joe is ready to retire.”
