NEW ORLEANS — As lawmakers consider another wave of economic aid for those hit hard by the pandemic, some local businesses are hitting a wall and are closing. Workers at St. Charles Tavern packed up boxes Thursday. The bar and restaurant, which has been in business for 103 years, is tapped out.I'm not sure about that last line. I mean there are locals who don't have the money or sense of security to spend a lot of nights eating out (even casually) right now. Plus there is a virus out there and, I don't know about you but I have not been in the mood to go have a celebratory meal in a room full of strangers lately.
In a tourist town, there aren’t enough locals to support a place like this, especially during a pandemic.
Anyway, August is coming. Congress is about to let everyone's unemployment benefits expire and replace them with... something worse. Because despite everything, we aren't suffering quite enough yet.
